À l'intérieur (Inside) is truly, one of, if not the sickest movie i've ever seen. I thought the Japanese were sick in the mind. Turns out, the French are not too far behind! "Inside" opens with a CG shot of a baby in a uterus as we hear the voice of the mother soothing the baby. Suddenly, the baby jerks as though it were struck, and we then take in the scene of a horrific accident with expecting mum Sarah. Her husband was killed in the accident. Fast forward 4 months, and Sarah's due on Christmas.
However, she's still grieving the death of her husband, and is now moody, depressed and wants to be alone most of the time. As she retires for the night to prepare for the delivery the next day, a mysterious woman arrives and requests to use her phone to call for help. Given the current rife situation in France (riots and political unrest), Sarah is understandably uncomfortable, and lies that her husband is sleeping and she doesn't want to disturb him, and that she should go to other houses for help. The woman then coolly says "But Sarah, your husband is dead" Terrified, Sarah calls the police, but when they arrive, the mystery woman was gone. After assuring Sarah that the police will send another patrol to visit later in the night, they leave, but the mysterious woman had somehow managed to sneak into the house.
Here on in, its a wicked game of cat and mouse, except it involves a heavily pregnant woman and lots of unimaginable gore. People with Omphalophobia be warned. It will be very scary for you, as it was for me. As a movie reviewer put it so succinctly, "whenever you think 'no! they won't do that to a pregnant woman!!', they go right ahead to do it" Its gory, gut-wrenching, fun, sick to watch, but watch you will, because let's face it, you all want to know what will happen to that poor poor woman.
Rating: 4/5
Of the thrillogy of films I'd reviewed, i would say I enjoyed Inside the most, followed by Martyrs, then Frontier(s). So my personal opinion is, if you have only one choice of the three, I'd pick Inside.
