MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD

Following the unexpected success and idolation of the 1987 Predator film, the sequels have oscillated between lame and terrible. In a perhaps slightly superstitious move, Predators tries to emulate the success of Aliens, simply by adding an 's' at the end of the original film. What it simply does is bring the action back in the jungle. The rest is still not the magic we were hoping for.

The film kicks off with an intense Adrien Brody freefall scene where he crashlands onto a lush tropical Jungle. He soon finds other crash landees, and make up a motley crew comprising of a mercenary, russian soldier, mexican drug cartel enforcer, sniper, death-row inmate, yakuza member and finally, a doctor. Almost immediately, they latch onto an understanding of strength in numbers, and cleverly deduce that there's a greater enemy hunting them. It also took them a while, but they finally also realise that they are not in Kansas anymore, or even Earth for that matter. They've all been dropped on an off-planet hunting preserve. (I guess its rather nice of the Predators to drop them on a planet that's so similar to ours in terms of plant life, that they can feel right at home while on the run)

With that being the major difference, the remainder of the film feels like a remake of the original Predator. For an alien species that claims to learn, adapt and change methods with each battle, they don't seem to have learned too much. They're still taken in by the bomb-under-a-body trick, and oblivious to the mud-concealment tactic.

With a ragtag bunch of badasses who, in their day jobs, would not be too trusting, you'd have expected much more infighting and alpha-male leadership contests, but no, they're all willing to relinquish the "leader" role to Adrien Brody quite willingly, even though he looks the least badass of them all (yeah, even when compared to Alice Braga). But i guess his "batman" voice made up for it, and convinced all the others that he means business.

Laurence Fishburne's cameo was creepy, but did nothing to enhance the experience for me.

The film has some decent action sequences, even if nothing is truly original or groundbreaking, but the plot is really weak, especially when you think about Topher Grace's character arc, which totally made no sense whatsoever in the last act of the film. (Unless what the wife says is right, which is to erase any guilt we'll feel about him being bait)
