We initially wanted to catch the star-studded “He’s just not that into you”, but due to timing issues, we caught Role Models instead.

Because it wasn’t our first choice movie, we were pleasantly surprised by its easy charm. I’ve always liked Paul Rudd, especially his turn as Phoebe Buffet’s bf/husband Mike Hannigan. The co-star though, was Seann William Scot. Yeap, Mr. American Pie.

So, a smart funny teaming up with OTT slapstick comic. Thankfully, Seann geared down for this role, and pushed the film to greater heights that way.

So on to the movie.

Danny (rudd) and Wheeler (seann) are salesmen for energy drink Minotaur. Wheeler dresses up in a minotaur costume while Danny spews his “cocaine bad, minotaur good” speeches in schools all over the city. Wheeler loves his job, and can do this his whole life, while Danny is your typical disgruntled employee. In fact, he is so negative about life that his relationship with his girlfriend (Miri from Zack and Miri) is compromised.

Faced with a bad day and on an impulse, they manage to get on the wrong side of the law, andsubsequently got arrested for destruction of school property and parking in a no parking zone, amongst others.

As Danny’s now ex girlfriend is a lawyer, she managed to help them avert a jail sentence by having to serve 150 hours of community service at Sturdy Wings, an organisation aimed at pairing an adult with a kid to serve as guidance.

Jail time versus Kid time. I know… its a difficult choice.

So there.. unwilling adult paired with problematic kids can only spell a recipe for disaster. The two kids and adults, eventually, over the course of the movie  each benefit from the other’s company, and learns a thing or two about friendships.. and some other stuff.

But the fun is in watching Danny and Wheeler alternating between having a go at each other, and trying to resolve their kid issues.

Funny things happen, a few boobshots are seen (its NC16), and everything ends happy.

A feel good movie that’s definitely worth more than a few laughs.
