To watch a movie like Taken, barely a week and a half before I am due for a european honeymoon, is not a good thing. Especially when its set in Paris, where my first stop will be.

Taken is a dark, bleak yet terrifically taut thriller, about slave/prostitution traders kidnapping young female tourists for the pleasure of european bigwigs.

This group of traders have been doing well, until they decided to kidnap Kim (played by a mildly irritating and over-aged looking Maggie Grace). Sometimes, all it takes for shit to hit the fan, is to mess with the wrong father.

And boy, is this the worst father you could have picked. Qui-Gon Jinn himself! Liam Neeson plays uber cool dad, a former CIA operative, who after hearing his daughter being kidnapped ‘live’ on telephone, declares to the then unknown party

“I will find you, and I will kill you”

Given only a 96 hour period before his daughter will disappear forever, he wastes no time in flying to Paris and visiting her last place of residence, the scene of the crime. There, he uses his super retired but still agile thinking mind to piece together clues, and start the body count ticker.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and cold Liam Neeson definitely is. Cool, calm and never flinching, can I say he’s even cooler than Jason Bourne?

There should be a prequel showing his exploits when he was active! Either that, or this was a test screening for The Bourne Retirement

4/5
