Received an invite from Omy to watch the premiere of Monsters vs Aliens on 18th May. In 3D! It was the first 3D movie I’ve ever seen, and boy, did that save the movie.
Monsters vs Aliens in 2D would have rendered it average, with only a breakout performance by Seth Rogen voicing B.O.B (Benzoate Ostylezene Bicarbonate) providing most of the laughs here. The story revolves around Susan, an average would-be bride who was hit by a meteorite and mutated into 50ft Ginormica! Shortly following that, she was hastily captured and placed in a top secret facility, meeting other monsters there like Dr Cockroach (mad scientist ala The Fly), aforementioned B.O.B (genetically-altered tomato injected with a chemically-altered ranch dessert topping, resulting in a brainless blob), The Missing Link (20,000 year old fish-ape hybrid) and insectosaurus (one huge piece of worm). When aliens come invading, who then would you call to defend the Earth? Who else but… the monsters?? The 3D effects are awesome, except the 3D glasses atop my regular glasses were a little annoying. But in any case, I’d highly recommend you to watch it in 3D, especially if you haven’t seen any 3D movies yet. This one was shot specifically for 3D, and not some crap movie that was later enhanced for 3D, so its got to be better, right? Anyway, verdict. 2/5 in 2D Create your own monster with this widget now! |
