olympic condoms 2012

Let's make Olympics a friendly game... anyone can score!

The above image was tweeted by Caroline Buchanan, an Australian cyclist. We’ve known for a while that the Olympics is just an excuse for the world’s most beautifully athletic people to come together for a cross-cultural boink session.

Only we had no idea how much boinking was involved.

Mediacorp’s Today reported that Durex sponsored 150,000 condoms for the 10,800 athletes. For simplicity’s sake, let’s assume all the athletes are straight, and the ratio of male and female athletes are roughly 50:50.

That gives each male athlete 27 condoms to use over the duration of the Games, which run for 17 days.

Now who wants to watch a version of Olympic Big Brother?

Bane

All i wanted was to be someone's reckoning..

Apparently, Bane survived the blast from Selina Kyle, and was incarcerated. 7 years later, he was released for good behaviour. And is now trying to be a good Gothamite.

Doing it right vs Doing it right now

So, Feng Tian Wei won the women’s singles table tennis bronze medal yesterday in the 2012 London Summer Olympics for Singapore. For that, I congratulate her. But I don’t feel like we, as a nation, have anything to celebrate. Feng was brought to Singapore in 2007, and in Jan 2008, was made a Singapore Citizen (Just in time for Beijing 2008), and together with her fellow chinese imports Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu, went on to claim the Silver medal in the 2008 women’s team event.

What our government was/is doing is as obvious as the match-throwing badminton players. They were systematically gaming the system in order to gain (almost) instant gratification.

If we can’t win it, we’ll fucking well buy it.

I just don’t think its right. I guess I can understand the temptation, and the rationale behind doing it (It sure feels great to be part of the medal winning elite in a global event such as the olympics), but ultimately, the victory will ring hollow.

Also, FTW (Feng Tianwei, incidentally, also, For The Win!) has been a “Singaporean” since 2008. Yet she can’t field a simple interview session after her win in english. Integrate leh.

We’re not asking a lot of you. Just speak english. Like the rest of us.

Not too loud please.

What’s better than 2 breasts? 3

One of the most memorable scenes in the original Total Recall was seeing a guy grope a mutant prostitute who had 3 breasts.

You’ll be happy to know that the Colin Farrell update will also feature the 3-boobed prostitute, only this time, she’s asian.

Looks like all the technological advances and improved film-making techniques over the last 22 years have all been for 1 purpose: More realistic looking 3-boobed girl.

Well, if 2 heads are better than 1, it only makes sense that 3 boobs are better than 2?

Enjoy.

BBH APAC teamed up with the Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (HOME) to create a campaign educating PMEBs on the plight and situation of the thousands of women trafficked into Asia for the sex trade.

They brilliantly went into LinkedIN to create a profile to spread awareness of the plight of these women.

Its targeted, ambient, and could totally go viral, given how the network works to connect you with the people you know.

More needs to be done to shed light on the situation, and to learn about how we can strive to end or at least mitigate human trafficking.

Unfortunately, the profile created at LinkedIN has been temporarily restricted. But you can still view the profile below and visit trickedin to find out more.

Lee Hsien Loong Facebook Page

I’m a fan of how our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has been doing thus far on Facebook.

He adopts a more light-hearted tone, engages well, and responds to people’s feedback. We can also differentiate his own postings against that of his social media team by his sign-off at the end of each post, and he posts often.

So, good luck on your National Day Rally Speech PM, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say about what some of us have suggested.

khaleesi and her dragon

A dark and gritty reboot of 'The Emperor's New Clothes'

So I’ve just finished watching 2 seasons of Game of Thrones.

I haven’t read the George R.R. Martin novels,  so I have zero idea of how the novels progress beyond what’s happened in the show. And I really love the show. I think the format of a 10 – 13 episode season for a heavily serialised drama like GoT really hits the jackpot in terms of pacing, tightening the plot such that filler episodes can be done away. (This was something that LOST got pretty tangled up in during their 2nd season, and the beginning of their 3rd season)

Season 1

In GoT season 1, we were teased in episode 1 about the existence of dragons a long time ago, their supposed extinction, and a gift of 3 petrified dragon eggs to Daenerys Targaryen at her wedding.

We got the pay-off in the season finale when the Khaleesi emerged the morning after from a smoldering pyre not only unharmed by the fire, but with a baby dragon on her shoulder (and another 2 by her side), magically hatched in the fire.

Truly, 3 dragons, 2 boobs and 1 really hot Mother of Dragons is a hell of a way to end the season.

Season 2

Season 2, they left us with no doubt what the real threat to Westeros really is. Its not the disparate groups of feudal lords fighting over who gets to be King.

Its the White Walkers.

A humanoid, supernatural species with the ability to re-animate the dead (read: zombies!) to fight for them, they are the real threat to Westeros.

Season 3 – Series Finale

Having not read the books, i’ll speculate that the later seasons will culminate in the White Walkers sweeping across the Wall and attacking King’s Landing, and all the different groups will band together to drive away the white walkers, with the help of Khaleesi’s full-grown dragons.

As the dragons will be monumental to the victory, the people will confer the Iron Throne to Khaleesi, with the condition she never goes anywhere without her dragons, and she never puts on any clothes, especially on the throne.

She gets to be Queen. They get to see boobies. And dragons.

-THE END-

Till we meet again in 2013, Moon of my Life.

Why do I need to take Gotham again? Couldn't I have just gone to a City without a Superhero, to invade... like Singapore?

Christopher Nolan’s last 4 films have collectively grossed more than 2 billion dollars worldwide. He has successfully revived Batman and turned him darker and grittier, culminating in his completed arc of Bruce Wayne / Batman with The Dark Knight Rises. It also means that no matter the quality of the film, it will be another blockbuster in terms of revenue for Warner Bros.

Thus far, his films have been hailed as anything from brilliant to masterpieces. And his legion of fans of grown exponentially as well. In the minds of his fans, Nolan can do no wrong.

So when some two-bit film critic comes out of The Dark Knight Rises and gives it a negative review, out comes the knives and stones.

This has happened at Rotten Tomatoes (RT) for The Dark Knight Rises. The comments came fast and furious, and had apparently crashed the reviewer Marshall Fine’s site. RT has temporarily disabled comments for reviews on TDKR, but you can always go to Fine’s site to throw more stones.

The episode has even prompted RT’s editor Matt Atchity to write about it, telling people to basically get a life and not be a dick about a couple of reviews.

He says:

“But if I could ask everyone for one thing, it’s this: don’t be a dick. Even if you think someone else is being a dick. Just take a deep breath, step away from the computer, and maybe go for a walk. Have a smoke if you need one. There are plenty of other things to get angry about, like war, famine, poverty and crime. But not movie reviews.”

As for me, I know its totally not professional to say this (so its lucky i’m NOT a professional film critic), but I already know TDKR is gonna be fawesome (f for fucking awesome) even if i’m only seeing the film this coming Saturday (on imax!).
